The recipient of the Bonnie Schultz Award will receive an appropriate plaque. The award is made annually with the provison that the Awards Committee may choose not to recommend an award if a worthy recipient has not been identified. Any person may nominate a pharmacist or group of pharmacists for the award. Criteria: The nominee shall demonstrate outstanding excellence in optimizing patient care.
Kristine Petrasko (2016 Bonnie Schultz)
Ms. Petrasko’s advocacy for the needs of her patients, and her commitment to educating clients, colleagues and students set Ms. Petrasko apart as a role model and worthy recipient of this award. As a certified respiratory educator and certified tobacco educator with particular interests in asthma and allergies, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), smoking cessation and spirometry, Ms. Petrasko has been involved in multiple professional presentations to pharmacists, physicians, other allied healthcare professionals, and the public.
Ms. Petrasko’s background in community practice, hospital, industry and academia sets her apart in expertise on smoking cessation – a topic for which she has served as co-author in the CPhA Therapeutic Choices for Minor Ailments publication – and on pulmonary rehabilitation. Ms. Petrasko is a pulmonary educator with the Regional Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program in Winnipeg, Manitoba and has also worked towards the standardization of the three Winnipeg sites to ensure best practice guidelines are followed to optimize the care for clients with COPD.
