MHSAL Drug Dispense Limits & EDS Extension Letters

On March 19, 2020, Manitoba Health Seniors and Active Living issued a letter informing pharmacists that to ensure the continued supply, and to prevent the stockpiling of prescription medication, Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living will require that, effective immediately, Manitoba pharmacists limit the number and quantity of prescription drug dispenses as follows:

• Manitoba pharmacists may only provide a ONE MONTH supply (to a maximum of a 35-day supply) in a 28-day period for ALL DRUGS.

• This restriction applies to all prescriptions regardless of whether the patient pays or has a private or public Drug Plan.

On March 20, 2020 Manitoba Health Seniors and Active Living issued a letter informing pharmacists that effective immediately, any patient that has an active EDS approval under Manitoba’s Pharmacare Program, the Palliative Care Drug Access Program (PA), the Employment and Income Assistance Drug Program (EIA) or Personal Care Home Program (PCH) for drug(s) expiring within the next 3 months will have the coverage automatically extended for a 6-month period. MHSAL will not require a physician or pharmacist to apply for renewal of coverage at this time.
