2020 Pharmacists Manitoba Conference
The Bowl of Hygeia Award is presented in recognition of the time and personal sacrifice devoted by pharmacists to the welfare of their respective community. This award was established in 1958 and awarded to a pharmacist for outstanding community service.

This year's recipient of the Bowl of Hygeia Award is Kim (Cairns) Bright.
Kim was born in Winnipeg in 1957 to Nurse Inez (Yuill) Cairns and Pharmacist Ross Cairns. From Winnipeg they moved to Minnedosa, Virden, Cartwright, and Grandview. Kim has 2 siblings Brenda and Blaire who are also pharmacists. She grew up in a volunteering family. In every small town her parents helped out. She loved skating and swimming and was lucky to take piano lessons as a child. After graduating from U of M Pharmacy in 1979 she has worked at Hargreaves in Neepawa, Little’s in McCreary and Shoppers Drug Mart, BMHC, Safeway and Super Thrifty Pharmacy in Brandon where she is now employed.
Kim’s volunteering began early (Grade 6),cutting grass at Cartwright Centennial Park for Mayor Cairns. She also began piano accompaniment while in high school in Grandview. She went on her first protest march in University and continues to this day---donating her time to speak truth to power. Kim is Married to Roger Bright and they have 3 adult children Jeff(Charlene), Jill (Dustin) and Michael (Nikki). , 4 grandchildren , 4 adopted Syrian grandchildren and 2 granddogs.
Since moving to Brandon Kim has volunteered at the Toy Lending Library, Amnesty Brandon, Brandon Hospice, Ploughshare Brandon, Canadian Cancer Society, Early Childhood Education Council,Brandon Festival of the Arts, Brandon Women’s Centre, Knox Church, Riverheights,Valleyview, Vincent Massey and Neeling high Schools., Refuge Brandon , Vincent Massey High School Basketball Mothers dance instructor, Brandon Community Play Groups, La Leche League Brandon , Roller Derby Ref, Fairview Personal Care Home and Seniors for Seniors Choir Director.
For fun Kim likes to swim, face paint, skate ,play ukulele and play with her grandkids. She is also director of International performing Group-- Ukulele Gals (Pharmacy Class of 79) who just performed for their 40th Anniversary in Puerto Vallarta.
