New Pharmacist Health Coaching - Cardiovascular Program

On July 13, 2015 / News

Pharmacists Manitoba is pleased to announce that we are partnering with Green Shield Canada (GSC) to introduce a new cardiovascular risk management program to patients in Manitoba who have extended health coverage with GSC.

This new, funded program is based on the successful pilot project sponsored by GSC in partnership with the Ontario Pharmacists Association (OPA) last year. That project provided clear evidence that pharmacist-administered clinical interventions led to a significant reduction in patient blood pressure, body mass index and improved medication compliance – all while reducing overall drug costs.

The Pharmacist Health Coaching - Cardiovascular Program will be available to patients in Manitoba who have both high blood pressure and high cholesterol; who have extended health coverage with GSC; and who are under 65 years of age. Pharmacists will determine patient eligibility based on a review of the patient’s medication history, in many cases at the time of dispensing.

GSC recognizes the value of these pharmacy-based interventions, and will be offering remuneration for the services provided: $60 for the initial consultation and $20 for each follow-up (to a maximum of three follow-up consultations per year).

Completion of an online training program is a requirement for pharmacists’ enrollment and participation in the program.
