Clinical Pharmacist

Great- West Life currently has an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Pharmacist located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  The successful candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada.  

Position Overview

Prescription drug benefits are a major component to any employee benefit program. The Clinical Pharmacist will provide pharmacy expertise that will allow Great-West Life to develop the best products and create the best solutions to assist our customers and deliver superior case management. Under the guidance of the Director, Drug Strategy, the successful candidate will join a team of pharmacists dedicated to prescription drug management. The Pharmacy Benefits team at Great-West Life works with the Drug Services Unit, to support the Prior Authorization program and policy/process development.   

Accountabilities

  • Provide guidance on formulary development through comprehensive drug reviews. 
  • Evaluate clinical studies and health technology assessments to make evidence based drug listing decisions.
  • Develop and maintain Prior Authorization criteria and protocols in collaboration with the Pharmacy Benefits team and Drug Services
  • Partner with pharmacists, nurses, and physicians on our Medical Board, to provide expert opinions on case files related to drug use.
  • Using expert drug knowledge, conduct research and analysis on various drug policy topics
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of reference material related to drug policy.
  • Provide client-specific drug support and recommendations
  • Maintain professional competence and expertise in the pharmacy profession through the on-going review of current pharmacy and medical literature, professional continuing education as well as through contact with professional peers.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and licensed to practice in a province of Canada
  • Minimum 2 years related experience
  • Formulary review experience an asset
  • Ability to manage relationships and work within a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Effective decision-making and documentation skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective planning and organizational skills with the ability to adapt to change and perform effectively under pressure

Pharmacy Consultant

Great- West Life currently has an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Consultant located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The successful candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Position Overview

The Pharmacy Consultant will provide pharmacy expertise that will allow Great-West Life to develop the best products and create the best solutions to assist our customers and deliver superior case management. Working with the Drug Services Unit at Great-West Life, the successful candidate will support the Prior Authorization program and policy/process development. Under the guidance of the Director, Drug Strategy will join a team dedicated to prescription drug management.

Accountabilities

  • Maintain professional relationships with key stakeholders, including pharmacy associations, pharmaceutical manufacturers, patient advocacy groups, etc.
  • Provide guidance on formulary development and prior authorization, using evidence-based medicine.
  • Partner with physicians on our Medical Board to provide expert opinions on case files related to drug use.
  • As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, assist in balancing the health needs of plan members with the cost management needs of plan sponsors, while contributing to the long term sustainability of drug plans
  • Using expert drug knowledge, conduct research and analysis on various drug policy topics
  • Conduct industry and environmental analysis to interpret provincial and national drug initiatives, industry regulations, and the corresponding impacts/relationships between pharmacies, manufacturers and private plans
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of reference material related to drug policy.
  • Provide client-specific support and recommendations

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and licensed to practice in a province of CanadaMinimum 3 years related experience
  • Wide-ranging pharmacy experience that provides ability to assess and resolve complex issues in strategic, creative and effective ways
  • Ability to manage relationships and provide excellent leaderships skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective planning and organizational skills with the ability to adapt to change and perform effectively under pressure
  • Creative problem solving skills and strong customer orientation.
