The Ozturk Financial Pharmacy Business Leadership Award is given to a pharmacy owner or manager who shows a strong dedication to the profession by empowering staff pharmacists to take on an expanded role and delivering exceptional, innovative pharmacy services to patients.
Matt Williams
Matt graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2019 with a bachelors degree in pharmacy. He first began practising as a pharmacist with Super Thrifty in Ste Rose, Manitoba. In 2020 he was given the opportunity to manage the Pharmasave in Souris, Manitoba, and serve the community that he grew up in. He continues to work, and live, in Souris, and has since become a co-owner of the store.
Growing up in rural Southwestern Manitoba, Matt understands the value of community, and the residents within in it. Through the patient-centred care and service the pharmacy offers he strives to make every patient feel welcome and comfortable within the community. He strongly believes in collaboration between health professionals and values his relationships with other health care providers within the community.
Matt has always been passionate about expanded scope of practice for pharmacists, administering immunizations, prescribing for smoking cessation, and UTIs. He believes that these services can greatly benefit the community and hopes to be able to offer more in the future as scope expands further, to better serve patient needs. He recently precepted a pharmacy student for the first time, and is eager to do so again, hoping to continue demonstrating why working in rural pharmacy is so rewarding.
When not at work Matt enjoys spending time with his amazing wife Jessie and their two young sons, Jacob and Caleb, playing old timer’s hockey in the winter, golfing in the summer, and watching movies at the Souris Avalon theatre.
